Security at Tahiti's International Airport - Faa'a

Since the events of September 11, all airports have been reinforcing their security. Tahiti is no exception. The Tourism Minister, Teva Rohfritsch, praised the new measures undertaken under the principle of precaution. According to Jean-David Bol, in charge of communications for the French Civil Aviation Department at the airport, he claimed that after going through a metal detector, all passengers on US bound flights must undergo a systematic body pat-down by an airport staff member, then the travelers must take off their shoes for inspection.
Bora Bora Lagoon Resort Announces New GM

Laurent Carrasset, formerly with Hotel Monasterio in Cusco, Peru, has been named the General Manager at The Bora Bora Lagoon Resort, a sister property within the Orient-Express collection.
Carrasset’s arrival on the island is a homecoming, as he launched his career with Orient-Express Hotels as the Assistant Financial Controller at the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort. His keen understanding of the luxury hotel market led to a promotion to Financial Controller of the hotel, followed by a move to Peru to work with three Orient-Express properties: Hotel Monasterio in Cusco, Miraflores in Lima, and The Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. He continued in the position as Financial Controller with the Peruvian properties until 2001, when he was named General Manager of the Hotel Monasterio.

“In Bora Bora, it is traditional to give guests a shell necklace before they leave, as it is believed that it will guide them back ‘home’ to the Island,” said Carrasset. “I like to believe that this tradition – and the necklace I have fondly kept in my possession – played a part in bringing me back. Of course, the exquisite beauty of the islands has something to do with it also.”

Born in France of a French father and Peruvian mother, Carrasset speaks French, Spanish and English fluently. He began his hospitality career in London at the Grosvenor House, after attending the École Hôtelière Jean Drouant in Paris. With a strong financial background, Carrasset never loses site of the client experience and believes strongly that service and luxury “extras” - ranging from the right robe to the right welcome amenity - are items worth investing in.
