From the Big Apple to the Queen of the Pacific

In July 2005, Air Tahiti Nui launches direct flights from New York to Papeete, Tahiti. This is one of the biggest announcements in ATN's history, and plans are underway for a major marketing campaign to support the launch.

Ongoing efforts have increased over the past several months on the East Coast from Tahiti Tourisme North America to increase awareness and strengthen distribution systems. TTNA has made contact with a number of tour operators on the east coast to solicit their participation on developing product for Tahiti and Her Islands. Several preferred operators are currently considering a dedicated New York section in their brochures as well.

Advertising programs have been gearing up in six key North East geographic areas. Magazine and newspaper co-op advertising in travel, dive and honeymoon publications, each with specific targets and a focus on North East travelers are underway. In addition, TTNA has submitted a request for a supplemental advertising budget for 2005 to increase awareness of Tahiti on the East Coast and to support the new ATN route.

Tahiti Tourisme North America’s public relations efforts have focused on targeting specific messages appealing to travelers in the North East. Recent press trips have garnered coverage in key regional newspapers, including the Boston Globe, the New York Times and the New York Post.

Additionally, during the month of July, TTNA and ATN conducted a total of six focus group research sessions in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and Philadelphia. The groups focused on perceptions from key demographic travelers, including high income travelers and engaged travelers (potential Honeymooners), to very high income international travelers.

Efforts are also underway to increase training for Tour Operator and Travel Agent staff on the East Coast. TTNA currently has over 300 travel agents enrolled in our Tahiti Tiare Specialist Program from the East Coast, a number that continues to grow.
