Air Tahiti Nui Participates in the IOSA

Air Tahiti Nui has joined the company of international airlines certified by the International Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), the world’s most rigorous safety audit.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA), whose mission is to represent, lead and serve the air industry, includes 260 airlines, representing 94% of world air traffic. In 2007, all IATA carriers must meet and abide by these safety and maintenance standards. Aviation Quality Services (AQS), an IATA-accredited audits organization, performed Air Tahiti Nui’s conformity audit November 21 - 28, 2005. In addition, the airline opted to take rectification measures consistent with IOSA-defined standards. Audit manager Mr. Sascha Schott recently acknowledged in a letter to Mr. Gérard Maurin, Air Tahiti Nui’s deputy managing director of operations, “AQS congratulates Air Tahiti Nui for its performance and the completion of a job well done.” The audit closed on August 21, 2006, opening the door for the airline’s entry into the IOSA registry.

The IOSA Principle
Air safety standards evolve at the same pace as technology. To harmonize and reinforce the various controls already performed by airlines and aircraft manufacturers, IATA has introduced a new operational audit standard named “IOSA” for “IATA Operational Safety Audit”. This certification includes the verification of documents and the effective application by airlines of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) norms. It also controls the implementation of best practices, those procedures deemed essential in flight safety matters. This recent standard, three years in the making, is a complement to operational audit programs already followed by airlines themselves and by their supervising authorities (Civil Aviation), according to existing national, European and international regulations.
