First Annual Tahiti
Film Festival |
When one thinks of Tahiti and Her Islands,
myriad images flood the imagination: exotic,
isolated beaches, impossibly blue lagoons,
overwater bungalows, Tahitian cultured pearls,
film festivals…
Film
festivals?
As if Tahiti wasn’t already a magnet
for Hollywood personalities, including Sharon
Stone, Pierce Brosnan, and most recently Nicole
Kidman, the First Annual Tahiti Film Festival
provides yet another reason for celebrities
and film lovers alike to come to the islands.
The festival will screen 12 full-length feature
films and 12 shorts (films 30 minutes or less)
from around the world, as well as commercials
and amateur Internet short films. In keeping
with Tahiti’s popularity as a world-class
honeymoon destination, the films to be presented
at the Tahiti Film Festival all have a love
and romance theme. The mood will already be
set, as the white sand beach, lush palms,
and turquoise waters of the lagoon prove that
truth can, in fact, be more romantic than
fiction.
A jury of eight industry professionals, including
actors, producers, and directors, will be
judging the films and determining winners
in several categories, such as Best Romantic
Feature, Best Romantic Short, Best Romantic
Amateur Short, and Best Romantic Commercial.
Other awards will include Tahiti Best Romantic
Director, Actor, Actress, Screenplay, and
Director of Photography. The awards will be
announced during the Tropical Closing Gala
Ceremony on December 9, 2006.
Along with the base festival will be the Tahiti
Virtual Festival, complete with downloadable
films, video-blogs, and chat rooms. The Virtual
Festival will include a Commercial Film category,
open to films no longer than 2 minutes in
length, and an Internet Short Film competition
open to non-professional filmmakers who have
a love story to tell. The lucky winner of
the shorts competition will be announced during
the awards ceremony and invited to attend
the 2007 Tahiti Film Festival.
